Zombie Fest

by @ 4:02 pm. Filed under General

Ok, so I finally saw Shaun of the Dead, which is difficult for me finding the time to watch a living dead movie because I have a six-year-old daughter.  My typical viewing nowadays is That’s So Raven or Winx Club.

But a good zombie outbreak really gets you in the Halloween mood, but it got me thinking about the recent popularity in this particular genre.

Why have zombie movies been so popular as of late?  Pop cultural myths are one reason, Shaun of the Dead for example was described as a Rom Com Zom (ROMantic COMedy ZOMbie movie).

Zombies are regularly encountered in horror and fantasy fiction, films, video games, and role-playing games. They are typically depicted as mindless, shambling, decaying corpses with a hunger for human flesh.  What could that be an allegory for?

Is it too simple to relate this to the people watching the movie?  Shaun’s role in the movie showed how much he actually enjoyed getting out of the day-to-day life shambles, even though it meant bludgeoning someone with a cricket bat.

Is it me, or is the violence inherit in the system?  Is that a bad thing?
